‘Decolonizing Bodies’ seminar series

Beauty and Inequality

Over the past weeks, the BINQ project has had the pleasure of hosting the online seminar series “Decolonizing Bodies: Conversations with Prof. Walter Mignolo.” Bringing together scholars from across the social sciences, the series opened a rich space for reflection on embodiment, aesthetics, and the power structures that shape them.

Across three sessions—Embodied Novelty, Embodied Fear, and Embodied Dignity —participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue on how bodies serve as sites of knowledge, resistance, vulnerability, and imagination. Each session combined deep theoretical insight with grounded research on lived experiences, inviting us to rethink how cultural narratives and colonial legacies inhabit the sensorium and the everyday.

We extend our sincere thanks to Prof. Walter Mignolo, whose contributions anchored each seminar and offered a powerful decolonial lens through which to approach embodiment. We also warmly thank our guest discussants Dr. Tommy Tse (University of Amsterdam), Dr. Patricio Simonetto (University of Leeds), Prof. Ashley Mears (University of Amsterdam), and Dr. Ladan Rahbari (University of Amsterdam). Their expertise and openness made each session a meaningful moment of collective learning.

Finally, we thank all participants who joined us, asked questions, and helped shape these conversations. Your engagement turned the series into a genuinely collaborative space.

Recordings Now Available

Recordings of all three seminars are now available for those who wish to revisit the discussions or explore them for the first time.

We look forward to continuing these dialogues within the BINQ project and to creating further opportunities for shared reflection across disciplines, geographies, and embodied experiences.
