This document confirms that I, the interviewee – name is signed below- have been properly informed of the research I am taking part in. This project is called ‘Beauty and Inequality: Beauty and Bodywork in Brussels. It is carried out by Sanne Pieters, MSc. who is working at KU Leuven university in Belgium.

Before agreeing to participate, I declare that I understand what this research is about and what is expected of me. I also understand what rights I have regarding the protection of my personal information, and what rights I have regarding participation and knowledge of the results of the research.

A / About the participation:

• I know that I will participate in an interview /Qsorts interview or observation. This will take about 1.5h per interview or the observation time as agreed upon and will be recorded for practical and ethical reasons. During this interview, I will be asked around subjects regarding the topic of the research.
• I understand that my participation in this study is voluntary. I have the right to stop participating at any time. I do not have to give a reason for this, and I know that it will not have any negative repercussions for me.
• My participation offers a contribution to scientific research. I know that I will not receive any further reward or compensation for my participation.

B / About the information given during participation:


• I know that my participation will require me to share personal information, such as gender, age or employment. The results of this study can be used for scientific goals and will be published. However, my name and other personal information will be removed from the data and will never be published or used.
• The confidentiality of the data will be protected at all stages of the research. To guarantee the protection to this information, the researchers will use multiple measures. Personal information will only be seen by the interviewer and other researchers. Information will be kept in safe storage (not connected to the internet, saved under password). All information that can be traced back to me, such as my name, employer, or where I live, will be removed.
• At any time, I can ask to end any further processing of my information and to delete the information that have already been collected.
• I understand that in the context of this research, information may be collected that is categorized as sensitive by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR [add local legal measures if need be). This concerns the following: ethnicity, race, sexual orientation or any other information of sensitive character that may be relevant to the research. I explicitly give my consent for this information to be collected in this research.
• I know that the participation will be recorded for practical and ethical reasons. The recordings will follow the safety guidelines already mentioned at all times.

This project is called Beauty and Inequality: Beauty and Bodywork in Brussels. It is carried out by Sanne Pieters, MSc as part of a project directed by Professor Giselinde Kuipers of the Center for Sociological Research at KU Leuven University in Belgium.

Before agreeing to participate, you need to declare that you understand what this research is about and what is expected of you. I will explain what rights you have regarding the protection of your personal information, and regarding participation and knowledge of the results of the research.

  • You will participate in an interview / observation/ other. This will take about 1.5h per interview or for the observation time as agreed upon and will be recorded for practical and ethical reasons. During this interview, you will be asked around subjects regarding the topic of the research.
  • Your participation in this study is voluntary. You have the right to stop participating at any time. You do not have to give a reason for this, and you know that it will not have any negative repercussions for me.
